Renosterbos Grill - Restaurant Logo Design

Renosterbos Grill Logo Design

This design was created from an idea my clients had, wanting to represent the Swartland. The Renosterbos - directly translated as ‘rhino bush’ - is what gave the Swartland it’s name originally, as the bush turns black at a certain time of the year and makes the landscape dark in this region.

The restaurant, at 119 Voortrekker Street, in Malmesbury, has been revamped and given a fresh breath of air. The new logo has given an identity to it’s new image and is found in the restaurant in stylish polished steel lamps placed around the interior. I will hopefully have a photo soon. I also designed their menu, which is printed on silver card in a leather folder.

Their food and service are excellent with generous portions and affordable prices to boot! Check it out next time you’re in the area - it’s just opposite Superspar.

M4 Artist Management Ad for Manwees

This advert was created for a new afrikaans, South African, magazine for men, called Manwees. This image is not the best so I’m hoping some of you will see the actual mag. The measurements were given to me as 275 x 56mm, which I always take as width x height, but it was not to be, so then the portrait version was created in the end.

Anyway, this is my first national magazine advert in a while so that’s good! Should I have put some code or logo on it I wonder?

James English London Dry Gin - Package Design

James English

James English London Dry Gin was a product created for the duty free market. I can’t take full credit for this one, but I played a part in the design and further promotional materials. I’ve just had a look at the new QSI website and it’s listed there. The agency I worked for in London did many of the Quality Spirits International label designs. Others I have worked on, which can be seen on their website are: Highland Bird, Highland Way, Scottish Collie, Vintner’s Choice and Glenfohry - all fine Scotch Whiskies. Of course that was some four years back now so some may well have changed, but original elements on the designs still exist from my days.

Das Pilsener - Package Design

Das Pilsener

I can’t remember when Das Pilsener was launched, but at the time I was working at an agency in Cape Town so I think it’s before 2000. It was launched by Namibian Breweries, but I’ve just had a look at their site and it’s not listed so I don’t know what’s happened to the product? It used to stand alongside Windhoek Light, but I’ve not seen it around the West Coast much lately. Will post more on this when I find it… I’m still quite proud of the design though!

Mo’Bay Coconut Cream Liqueur - Package Design

Mo’Bay

I designed this product while working at an agency in London around 2003. I’ve seen it in some off-licences in the UK, but I think it was an export product so not sure where it’s distributed today. It is a shrink-wrapped label which covers the entire bottle. This photograph was actually taken on an island called Nevis, which our lucky in-house photographer was sent to for another project. This shot is still used on their website and is produced by Babco (UK) Ltd.

White Star Super Maize Meal - Package Design

White Star Super Maize Meal Packaging

I thought I’d add some of my ealier work - I used to work for a biggish agency in Cape Town before my freelance days. This product was launched around 1999/2000 and went through much consumer testing before the final design was chosen. It was kept simple with only two print colours and I think it’s still successful today.
